American Gangster - Great story, though peke raw yun ibang parts. Great acting by Denzel Washington. most memorable scene - nung sinuntok ni Denzel yun dibdib niya habang sinasabing "They tried to kill my wife!"

Comedy Movie of the Year:
Big Stan Kahit na mukhang low budget panalo pa rin ang mga gags! masarap pagkwentuhan ng barkada pag napanood niyo lahat.

TV Show of the Year:
The Office - The only American series that I like to watch...aside from Baywatch.

Honorable Mention:
TEN - New style of news reporting minus the exaggerated voice modulation of the news anchors.

Dalawamput' dalawang taon na ang nakakalipas. Naalala ko pa noon. Four years old pa lang ako. Bagaman hindi pa malinaw ang mga pangyayari sa akin, alam kong may nagaganap na malaking "balita" ukol sa bansa. Walang klase noong mga panahong iyon kaya naman ako'y tuwang-tuwa sa paglalaro ng mga tau-tauhang sundalo ko. Ang kwento ng aking munting laro noon ay halin-tulad sa mga napapakinggang balita ng aking nanay sa radyo - may mga sundalo raw na sumasakop sa channel 4 habang milyon-milyong tao ang nagtitipon sa EDSA. Habang tutok na tutok ang aking nanay sa pakikinig, tutok na tutok din ako sa mga tautahang sundalo na "tinutulak" ko papasok sa butas ng ilalim ng aming tukador na ginuhitan ko ng numberong 4. Naalala ko rin ng mga panahong iyon na ginagaya namin ng aking kuya at ate ang mga nababalita sa radyo. Kunwari reporter si ate at binabalita ang rally sa EDSA. Kami naman ng kuya ko ay nagsasalita sa background ng "Rally, Rally, Rally...." Nirecord pa namin ang aming mga boses sa cassette tape recorder at paulit-ulit na pinapatugtog habang nagtatawanan.

Late '90s na nang lubos kong naintindihan ang pangyayari sa EDSA. Ang buong kahulugan ng pagtutulungan ng Pilipino para magkaroon ng tunay na pagbabago ang bansa. Kakaiba at nakakabilib ang nangyari noong February 22-25, 1986 kaya siguro tuwing People Power anniversary, gustong gusto ko itong balik-balikan. Pinapanood ang mga nirecord kong documentary katulad ng "Batas Militar" at ibang pang EDSA docus. At paulit-ulit na pinapatugtog ang "Handog Ng Pilipino."

Ang pagkakaintindi ko sa magandang layunin ng EDSA one ang nagtulak din sa akin na sumama sa EDSA dos at hindi lang tumambay sa bahay at muling maglaru ng tau-tauhan o magpanggap na rallyista sa bahay.

Ngayon, may nananawagan na naman ng panibagong People Power dahil sa kasulukuyang gulong kinakaharap ng babaeng Marcos sa Malacañang. Ang tanong, sasama ba ako ulet sa panibagong edsa? Oo.

Alam kong marami na ang tinatamad na kumilos para sa isa pang People Power. Pero hahayaan na lang ba nating na ganun na lamang?

Palitan na ang dapat palitan.

Hindi tayo dapat tumigil hangga't hindi tuluyang nababago ang takbo ng ating bansa. Kung meron mang dapat sisihin kung bakit wala nang tiwala ang tao sa People Power ay tayong lahat. Hindi natatapos ang lahat sa isang People Power. Hindi dahil napatalsik na natin ang isang tiwaling pangulo, ay sapat na iyon para tayo’y maniwalang mababago na ang ating bansa. Ang pagbabago ay hindi lamang dapat sa pamahalaan kungdi sa ating bawa’t isa. Hindi natatapos ang lahat sa pagpapakita na tayo nagkakaisa. Dapat ay magkaisa rin tayo sa pagbabantay sa ating bansa, responsibilidad natin ito.
Kung magkaroon man ng bagong EDSA, sana hindi na muli itong masayang at baka tayo'y maakusahan na ng pangagahasa sa EDSA People Power spirit.

Hellow!

It's been almost a year since wrote something "meaningful" in my wonderful blog. So here I am saying hellow to my avid fans and readers! Yes! I'm back...not to write a lengthy entry but just to say Kamusta!

What's in a name
( a self-centered blog entry)

Hi my name is Antonio but people call me chaps or chappy. When I was a 1st grader, though most of my friends called me through my given name, some guys preferred to call me Negrito and Sunog. How come? Susunod, isang rebelasyon, ang istorya sa mga nickname ni Antonio Ongchap Jr, ilalantad na na!

Nung Ako'y bata pa

Jun-Jun - The first-ever transformation of my name. Dahil junior ako, tawag ng magulang ko sa akin ay Jun-Jun yan ay pag mabait ako. (Ngayong matanda na ako, di na sila redundant. Jun na lang)

Kulot - Eto ang tawag sa akin ni Papa, Mama, Bro, Sis at Yaya ko dati pag mejo asar sila sa akin ( Kulot nagkalat na naman ang laruan mo, Kulat maligo ka na). Kulot kasi kulot talaga ako, kaya nga ako kalbo ngayon.

Negrito - I earned this moniker when I was in grade one. As most of you know, I studied elementary and high school in a Chinese school. Most of my classmates were really mestiso, Kutis labanos. I was the only one who was kutis tae or brown. So when my teacher, the evil Mrs Dela Rosa, would discuss the ancestors of Filipinos, she would always call my name.

Dela Rosa: Class, isa sa mga ninuno natin ay ang mga Negrito. Nakakita na ba kayo ng Negrito?
Class: Di pa po
Dela Rosa: Antonio Halika rito.

I would go in front of the class and stand beside Mrs. Dela Rosa. She would then start describing the Negritos while pointing at me.

Dela Rosa: Kamukha ni Antonio ang mga negrito. Kulot, Maitim ang balat, etc
Class: Ha ha ha!

(Same thing happened when I was in first year high school. My teacher also used me as exhibit a while discussing the negritos)

Because of what Mrs Dela Rosa did, everyone started calling me negrito. This was a very traumatic childhood experience (I'm crying now). I could still remember the name of my classmate who was relentless in calling me Negrito. He's Andrew Yuen, a fat bully. Everyday, he would call me negrito and laugh out loud.

Sunog - It was the name that a group of bullies from section 1-D gave me, again, because of my skin tone. Di kasi nila alam ang tunay kong pangalan kaya Sunog ang tawag nila sa akin.

Alberto Sunog - Sunog eventually evolved and became Alberto Sunog. How? They played a trick on me. While in the CR, they approached me and said that they "came in peace"

Bully1: Oi bati na tayo di ka na namin tatawaging sunog.
Bully2: oo nga
Antonio: Thank you
Bully:1: Ano bang tunay mong pangalan
Antonio: Antonio
Bully all at the same time: ahhhh Alberto Sunog

Nagkamali sila ng dinig kala nila alberto ang sinabi ko ayun.

I'm tired of writing na. Anyways. Chappy came from my blockmates in College. Then Chaps nung nagwowork na ako. Screen name ko din chaps when chatting.

My name continues to evolve until now. Sa Starbucks yun sinusulat nilang name sa receipt ay Chabs, Chubs. (putang ina, mataba na ba ako) tapos latest sa Bo's they wrote it as SAHPSE galeng no. Bye. Till my next entry
